We are the Funk City Party band. Look, we’ve played a *lot* of weddings (amazingly over 630+ in 22+ years.) Castle weddings. Barn weddings. Tipi-in-a-field weddings. Glamorous hotel weddings where there were more sequins than guests (and that was just US). You name it, we’ve been there—singing, dancing, jumping into conga lines. And because we’ve been in the thick of it (like, right in the middle of the dance floor), we’ve learned a few things. So, here they are—our best, slightly quirky but totally real tips for a perfect wedding from a very experienced wedding band.

1. Don’t Try to Please Everyone (You Can’t)

Your wedding is not a variety show or a United Nations summit. It’s your day. You and your partner get to call the shots. Want a food truck instead of a sit-down meal? Do it. Want to walk down the aisle to AC/DC? Heck yes. One of the biggest tips for a perfect wedding is to make sure it actually reflects *you*—not your Aunt Carol’s Pinterest board. Practically you actually won’t impress everyone. Therefore just focus on you. 

2. Invest in Atmosphere

People remember the energy. The vibe. The way the evening felt. That’s why it’s so worth putting thought (and a bit of budget) into lighting, music, and the stuff that gets people dancing and smiling. A killer band with a live horn section can turn a “nice evening” into a full-on dance marathon. (Just saying.) People do remember vibes more than the smaller details.

3. Write Down What Actually Matters to You

This one’s less “woo woo” than it sounds. Grab a coffee (or a wine), sit down with your partner, and write down three things each that matter most to you for the day. Could be the food. Could be the ceremony vibe. Could be the first dance song. Keep those six priorities as your North Star when decisions get stressful. Again… just focus on you. 

4. Don’t Leave Entertainment Until the Last Minute

We know, we’re a band, so of course we’d say this—but it’s honestly one of the biggest tips for a perfect wedding. Entertainment often gets left until the end of the planning process. But your band, DJ, or whatever live music you go for will set the tone for the whole evening.

5. Keep It Flowing—But Not Too Tightly Scheduled

It’s a balancing act, this one. You want structure—so people know where to be and when—but also a bit of looseness, so nobody’s sprinting from speeches to cake cutting like it’s a military drill. Some of the best weddings we’ve seen have had room for spontaneous dancing, surprise speeches, or even an impromptu sax solo in the courtyard. (That last one might’ve been us…) From the 600 weddings we have played at *maybe* 3 have ran to time. Know that its probably going to run late. Don’t stress on the day. 

6. Hire a Team You Trust

From photographers and florists to your venue and entertainment, go with suppliers who feel like part of your vibe. Read their reviews, have a chat, and trust your gut. A great team makes the day smoother, calmer, and way more fun.

Quick Bonus Tips for a Perfect Wedding:

• Have a wedding day emergency kit (plasters, mints, safety pins… leave them in the toilets for everyone. (trust us))
• Feed your vendors—happy band = better encores
• Assign a hype person to keep the schedule rolling (and to remind you to drink water)
• Do a soundcheck, even for live music outdoors—it saves stress later

If you’re having a party and want a brilliant band that actually gets the vibe and gets people dancing. This is really important to us. If that sounds good— get in touch. We’d love to be the fun part of your night. If you have a wedding or event in a different place we are local to Bath, Wiltshire, Bristol, Somerset and Reading too although we travel absolutely everywhere. *Except the moon*. When people dance too much in zero gravity they have a tendency to float off which can cause problems with our insurance.
